OPPO RX17 Pro, RX17 Neo, and Find X launch in the UK

Following the recent expansion of Xiaomi to the UK and Ireland, OPPO is next up to make the leap onto western European soil. The company has already been active in France, Spain, Italy, and other European markets since last year, but now they’ve launched in the UK too. A launch event held on January 29th in London revealed that the OPPO RX17 Pro, RX17 Neo, and the Find X are all getting released, and they can be pre-ordered from mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse. They will begin shipping from February 13th.

The OPPO RX17 Pro is the company’s primary flagship and will be what they market towards regular consumers. It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710, 8GB of RAM, an in-display fingerprint sensor, a tri-camera setup, and SuperVOOC support. The RX17 Neo is a lower-end variant, and it features a Snapdragon 670, 4GB of RAM, and dual camera setup. SuperVOOC support is also removed and the camera is downgraded to a dual-sensor setup. Both of these phones cost £549 and £319 respectively.

What will definitely grab attention, in the short term anyway, is the launch of the OPPO Find X. The Find X is one of the first major smartphones to feature a sliding camera, though it’s costly, coming in at £799. It features the soon-to-be-outdated Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, 8GB of RAM, and regular VOOC charging. There’s no fingerprint sensor either, relying on facial recognition for biometrics.

The company will face fierce competition from the likes of Huawei and Xiaomi, which may prove difficult for the company to break into the UK market. The company is committed though, announcing that they also intend to open a design center in London sometime in the future. It also seems weird to launch the Find X alongside mid-range devices with better features, as their only let down is the reduced processing power. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on OPPO’s performance in the UK, as more competition is usually a good thing. Xiaomi also had the added benefit of getting carrier support from Three Ireland and Three UK before launch, something that OPPO hasn’t secured for themselves just yet.
